The Fairbanks Frontier Chorus, under the guidance of interim director Gayle Miller, is affectionately known as The Fairbanks Sweet Adelines. We are an award-winning show chorus, affiliated with Sweet Adelines International, Region 13 (North by Northwest).
We sing a cappella, four-part harmony in the barbershop style. The chorus and its quartets perform throughout the year for private and public events. As you can see by the photo above, we love to show off our sense of humor with funny songs, wild costumes, and choreography.
Since 1965, we have brought barbershop harmony to Fairbanks and the surrounding areas. We recently celebrated our 50-year anniversary. Our singers come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, geographical locations, and walks of life. We love to sing, dance, and entertain! We currently have about 30 active members in our group, plus about a dozen ‘Christmas singers’ who recently joined us for the 2016 holiday show. We’re always recruiting for new members – especially women who can sing the lower harmony parts (baritone and bass).
We perform for special occasions around the community, such as parties, fundraisers, charity events, graduations, parades, fairs, ceremonies, etc. Our annual shows at the Tanana Valley State Fair (August) and the Pioneer Park Theatre (December) are very popular with local residents and tourists alike. We also participate in bi-annual regional competitions in Spokane, WA, where we have won the Audience Choice Award several times.
Within our chorus, we have three quartets; Arctic Gems, Gold Fever, and Mes Amies. We also enjoy performing with our ‘brother chorus,’ The Great Land Sounds.
